About this Race

The Vienna City Marathon takes runners on a spectacular journey through one of Europe's most culturally rich capitals. Starting near the United Nations headquarters, the flat course crosses the Danube on the iconic Reichsbrücke bridge before winding through the Prater parkland — the same route where Eliud Kipchoge made history with his sub-two-hour run in 2019. The course passes Schönbrunn Palace, the Vienna State Opera, and the grand Ringstrasse boulevard before finishing in front of the Burgtheater. With strong crowd support, excellent pacing infrastructure and consistently fast conditions, Vienna is a favourite for personal best attempts and debut marathoners alike.

It has grown into one of Europe's most celebrated spring marathons, regularly attracting over 40,000 participants across all distances from more than 100 nations. The race gained worldwide fame when Eliud Kipchoge used part of the course for his historic sub-two-hour marathon attempt in 2019.
